About Boca Grande
Florida
Southwest Florida has some
of the best tarpon fishing in the world and
Boca Grande Pass may very well be its center.
Located between the barrier islands of Gasparilla
and Cayo Costa, Boca Grande Pass is one of
the deepest natural inlets in Florida. It's
deep water (80 feet) and swift currents caused
by tidal influences create a magnet for vast
numbers of tarpon to feed before spawning.
During prime fishing season,
May
thru July, thousands of tarpon are moving
in and out of the pass daily. They travel
in schools, or pods, to feed on threadfin
herring, pumpkinseeds and crabs along the
white beaches. Tarpon not only have gills
but also an air bladder which causes them
to roll and gulp air, their silver sides shining
in the sun like giant mirrors.
To see 50 or more of these
tarpon heading right for your bait is a nerve
racking experience. Join me for the thrill
of tarpon fishing on the beaches surrounding
Boca Grande. There is no better place to land
the tarpon of a life time than Boca Grande.
